Mission and Vision

Social Services and Management Trust (SSMT) was founded on April 18, 1995 with two aims in mind:

  • To establish a project, with the aim to benefit the social upliftment of the nation.
  • To donate a part of the proceeds to charity.

Mr. A.S.M.O. Subhan
The founder Chairman

The founder Chairman of this trust, Mr. A.S.M.O. Subhan, the then CEO of Duncan Foundation Bangladesh Ltd. decided to start this trust with a few likeminded well known and reputed individuals of the society when he was approached for donations from IMPACT Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) to fund and develop a mobile floating hospital. This hospital, Jibon Tori, would travel through the rivers in Bangladesh with modern medical services (clinical & surgical) for the poor people in the riverine areas of the country, so that modern medical treatment and surgical intervention would be available at the doorstep of the rural population for: eye, orthopedic, ear, nose and throat, and cleft lip patients and thus reduce incidence of avoidable disablement as well as improve quality of Life.

Mr Monsur Choudhuri

The Charitable Trust under the name Impact Foundation Bangladesh (IFB) was established on 8th July 1993 in Dhaka with the invaluable inspiration, guidance and support of one of the most illustrious international human development leaders, Sir John Wilson CBE, the then chairman of UK Impact Foundation

Mr Monsur Choudhuri of IFB had approached Mr. Subhan for his company’s assistance and was advised by the latter to think of a socially beneficial project, the partial profits of which will be a continuous source of income for running Jibon Tori, the floating hospital of IFB; instead of seeking donations repeatedly from similar corporate bodies.

Sir John Wilson

Sir John Wilson School

Mr Monsur went back to Mr Subhan with the idea of starting an English medium school. Mr Subhan, who had already been unsuccessfully working with others in this area, agreed immediately. They decide to start a high-end English medium school run by a trained British Principal.

The Sir John Wilson School was thus started with a trained British teacher, Sarah Streeton, as the principal with a view of establishing an English medium school having high standards. It started in 1995 with 9 pupils and by 1999 it started giving Tk50,000 per month to the Jibon Tori. This donation has now increased to Tk 4,50,000 a month. The school, a custom-built building on 2 acres of land was sold in 2019. The board of SSMT is still paying the monthly donation. Tk 5 crores was donated in 2020 to the IMPACT hospital in Chuadanga.
